Simple Habits that Serve Our Home

simple habits life with grace and heart

Everyone loves a clean house right? All you have to do today is type cleaning into Pinterest and all sorts of tips, tricks, and routines will pop up. I love the idea of a cleaning routine, however, mine change very often. Usually, what ends up working for me are simple habits to avoid chaos and then schedule in the more detailed cleaning. Here are my simple habits that serve our home daily.

1. Empty Sink

Great way to start the morning… a shiny sink!

I hate waking up to a dirty sink with dishes piled high from the night before. Who’s with me?! One thing I try to do every night to solve this problem is to clean up after dinner. My goal is to have all of the dishes done the night before and wipe out my sink. That way, when I wake up in the morning I’m at peace looking at my beautiful clean kitchen! I have to work hard at this goal because we live in a camper. If you have ever spent time in a camper you know that the water heater is small. With a small water heater, I have to be very strategic in my planning when it comes to dishes and showering. However, if I can make it work then you can too! Give it a try and see how great you feel in the morning!

2. Quick Vaccum

My favorite vacuum

I love vacuum lines and so does the husband. That means I spend a lot of time vacuuming. We also have a furbaby, which means dog hair everywhere! I love my pup but I don’t love the hair, you just learn to live with it. I like to end my night with a quick vacuum of our living room. I usually do a deep vacuum every few days of the bedroom and the corners and such, but I like to do a quick few passes of the living room at night. Plus vacuum lines!

3. Swish Toilet

Our cute little camper toilet

As I have said before we live in a camper out in the country. We have hard water, and the toilet doesn’t hold water, so our toilet tends to get a quick wipe down by the end of the day. However, with our hard water this helps cut down on all the buildup. I use the Method toilet bowl cleaner and just scrub the inside real quick. As needed, I use the Seventh Generation wipes to do quick wipe downs on the outside of the toilet. I promise it makes your bathroom feel cleaner!

4. Wipe Counters

Shiny counters are a must

This has to be one of my favorite chores. Wiping counters is literally so therapeutic to me. I would say it is like free therapy but I have an obsession with buying all-purpose spray from Grove Collaborative. Anyway, throughout the day my counters take the brunt of a lot. Also, we get a lot of dust where we are. I might not wipe the counter at night, but I love to wipe the counters and I try to do it at some point throughout the day. I love shiny counters, who else?!

5. Nightly Dinners

Beef, potato, and veggie stew

Nightly dinners is not a chore, but I think it is a worthy habit. I love cooking, so that might be why I don’t mind doing this. However, I think cooking for dinner brings so much love to your home. I believe that cooking dinner is a blessing. Yes, you have dirty dishes after, but that means you had the food to cook and you have the kitchen to cook dinner in. Too many people don’t have that blessing. Cooking is one way I show my house and my husband some love. Do you cook dinner every night?

These may seem like very simply habits, but when I see that these habits get done, it often motivates me to get some other chores done. Sometimes when I lack motivation, I tell myself to just get these few things done. Usually, I end up doing more, but if I don’t at least these things were done. I have just a little less to stress about and sometimes that makes all the difference.

What are your daily habits?

Megan, what an experience- living in a camper! Establishing your routines will certainly help when/if you guys have kids in the future. There’s so much more stuff the more people you add! Love your suggestions.
