5 Tips from my Hairdresser
One of my favorite outings is going to the salon. There is nothing more glamorous than walking out of the salon with fresh locks feeling sassy AF! I’m kind of lazy with my hair, and need some help figuring out how to keep my hair looking great until my next appointment.
The last time I went to the salon, my hairdresser taught me 5 things that every girl should know to keep her hair looking fresh!
- Use Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner
Sulfates found in shampoos and conditioners can fade your color, irritate your scalp, and are just overall bad for your hair and scalp. If you color your hair, using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner will help keep your color longer and keep your hair healthy in general. I have a sensitive scalp and using a high quality sulfate free shampoo and conditioner helps care for not only my color treated hair, but my scalp as well.
2. Vitamin D is good for your scalp
I have already said that I have a sensitive scalp, and sometimes it’s itchy and dry. The vitamin D from the sun can help your scalp and the itchiness that occurs. I’ve noticed that during the summer when I am outside more that my scalp isn’t itchy, however, when it is the winter then my scalp is a bit more sensitive and itchy. So go bask in the sunlight and naturally take care of your scalp.
3. How to spray product in your hair
Ok, this tip shocked me and blew my mind! Are you ready for this? My hairdresser told me that when you are spraying product in your hair that the length of the can is how far away you should spray your product. If you are spraying a heat protectant, put the can on your head and then you will know how far away you should be spraying the product. Like I said, I’m lazy with my hair and not very original so if you knew this already refrain from thinking I’m crazy and have been living under a rock.
4. Always use a heat protectant
Ok, I don’t want to judge but if you are using any heat on your hair you should already know to use a heat protectant. A heat protectant will create a barrier that will prevent some heat damage to your hair. SOME not all, but your hair will appreciate the barrier.
5. Use a vented brush
This one is pretty simple, however, if you blow dry your hair pretty often then a vented brush is the way to go. Using a vented brush will speed up your drying time, which will also decrease the amount of heat used on your hair. Decreasing the amount of heat on your hair means less damage to your hair. Less damage means… you guessed it HEALTHY HAIR!
These were just a few tips. I’m not a hairdresser, but I love to learn how to take better care of my hair! If you have another tip leave them in the comments below!
